The Leisure Travel Van comes standard with an attractive sink cover made out of the same material as the countertop that sits perfectly in the sink.

While it looks very nice and does a good job of giving you added counter space, it is rather heavy and not made of a material ideal to be used as a cutting board. It’s not something you want to damage with food stains and knife marks. Many DIY-enthusiasts have created several clever homemade solutions, but there weren’t any affordable and readily available options for purchase.

We here at Pagosa Supply Co. decided to take on the task of designing the perfect solution and created a custom-fit cutting board for the sink area of the Leisure Travel Vans RV models. Here is an inside look at how that process happened.

Design

We used calipers to measure the exact depth and circumference of the existing sink cover for a perfect fit. With the measurements, we were able to begin working on creating prototypes. We identified two high-quality manufacturing partners to produce the cutting boards.

We debated on which material to use. Cutting boards are typically made from either wood or a plastic polymer. So we decided to do both. We want Leisure Travel Van Owners to have their choice of either wood or white…or both! The wood is made from bamboo and the white is made from food-grade plastic.

After multiple prototypes, we refined the dimension. It fits and looks really beautiful. With the fit correct, we decided to move forward with our first production run set to be complete in February 2021.

Benefits

There are actually multiple benefits to the Leisure Travel Van cutting board we created that owners will enjoy:

Liquid Groove - There is a nice channel around the perimeter of the cutting board that will help drain excess liquid into the sink while you are preparing food.
Regain Counter Space - Using our sink cutting board helps you recover valuable and limited counter space to maximize your RV efficiency.
Light Weight - Both our plastic and bamboo cutting boards are less than 3 pounds in weight which is much lighter than the heavy sink cover that comes with your Leisure Travel Van. This helps reduce the chances that your sink becomes separated from your countertop (careful not to apply weight to anything resting on top of the sink).
Faucet Opening - Like the sink cover that comes with your LTV, we have an attractive cutout so that you are able to use your faucet while using the cutting board.
Use As Sink Cover - Instead of replacing the cutting board with the large and heavy sink cover that came with the LTV, you can simply flip our cutting board over to the sink cover side when you are finished with your food prep. The sink cover side is smooth and doesn’t have a liquid groove. It looks great while traveling!

Because of these benefits, we decided to call the cutting board the Leisure Travel Van Chop Block & Sink Cover.
