Essential RV Advice from a Leisure Travel Van Expert

Hey RVers and vanlifers!

I recently had a fantastic conversation with Lori Rabey, a seasoned solo RVer who travels extensively in her Leisure Travel Van Unity MB. Lori was kind enough to share some of her valuable insights and tips for making the most of life on the road. Watch the video (or listen to the podcast) for all of her valuable tips into making the most of your RV experience.

Embracing the RV Community:

Lori is a firm believer in the social aspect of RVing. She loves staying at campgrounds, where she finds a welcoming and inclusive community of fellow travelers. For her, it's about more than just finding a place to park for the night – it's about connecting with others who share her passion for adventure.

Planning for Adventure:

Lori is a meticulous planner, especially when it comes to her extensive travels. She often plans her trips around specific themes, such as exploring different cultures or visiting historical sites. She also uses tools like RV Life Trip Wizard to map out her journeys and discover new campgrounds along the way.

Towing a Car

Lori has towed a Subaru Crosstrek behind her Leisure Travel Van since the beginning, so my question was: “Is it worth the hassle?”. She emphatically said yes! It not just creates more freedom, but also allows her to carry more adventure gear like a kayak and her pop up clamshell tent. Check out my YouTube playlist about which tow car may be right for you!

Solo Travel Tips:

Lori had some great advice for solo RVers. She emphasized the importance of staying at campgrounds for safety and social interaction. She also shared some clever meal-planning hacks, like freezing pre-made meals and using small containers for ice to maximize space and convenience.

Essential Gear and Websites

With a small RV, you don’t have a lot of room for things that are not essential, so I asked her what are her must haves.

  1. Epic Off Grid Internet: Lori actually got this system from my recommendation and has been more than pleased with the performance.

  2. Magma Pots & Pans: These stackable pots & pans free up storage space and perform great!

  3. Platform Step: This step makes entrance and exiting the RV much easier and safer!

  4. Trip Planning: Both Lori and I use RV Trip Wizard to plan our trips.

A Story of Serendipity:

During our conversation, Lori shared a heartwarming story about getting lost while kayaking and then being blessed by a group of First Nations people she encountered. It was a beautiful reminder of the unexpected connections and experiences that RV travel can bring.

Thank You, Lori!

I want to express my gratitude to Lori for sharing her wisdom and experiences. Her passion for RVing is contagious, and her tips are sure to be helpful for both seasoned RVers and those just starting their adventures.
